Matthew 11:28-30 // Come to Me

TEXT - Matthew 11:28-30

This brief invitation from Jesus is packed with meaning. Christ offers a deep rest of the soul to those who are burdened and weary. This free offer of the gospel is given to all, but only those who are aware of their weakness with a child-like humility will come to him.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

HEAD: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR MINDS TO HELP US UNDERSTAND GOD’S WORD.

  • While the focus of Sunday’s sermon was verses 28-30, the context of every Bible verse is important in understanding meaning. Read all of chapter 11. What’s going on here?

  • How does the rest of the chapter help you better understand the invitation of Jesus in verses 28-29?

HEART: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR AFFECTIONS TO HELP US LOVE GOD

  • What does it mean to labor? To be heavy laden? Give examples from your own experience.

  • How does Jesus describe himself in verse 29? Does this description match your understanding of who Christ is?

HANDS: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR HANDS TO HELP US LIVE FOR GOD (PERSONALLY, COMMUNALLY, AND MISSIONALLY)

  • The primary application of this passage is simple: come to Jesus in faith. Have you come to him; For the first time (if you’re not a Christian) or continually for renewed spiritual life (if you are a Christian)? What’s stopping you?

  • Jesus says “learn from me.” How are you learning from and growing in Christ that you may be more gentle and lowly toward others?
