This Sunday we began a new sermon series through the book of Genesis. Genesis is a book about beginnings; telling us God created everything that exists and he rules over his creation. But the book also tells us of humanity's descent into sin and death, and of God's unfolding plan to redeem his creation. Before we go deep into the book of Genesis, these discussion questions will help us reflect on the big ideas of the book.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

HEAD:
Questions aimed at our minds to help us understand God’s word.

  • What do you know about Genesis? What themes and/or questions come to mind when you think about the book?

  • Read Genesis 1:1, and then verses 26 - What important truths does this verse communicate to us about God and his creation?

  • Read Genesis 1:31 - What important truths does this verse communicate to us about God and his creation?

HEART: Questions aimed at our affections to help us love God

  • How do the scriptures you just read communicate to us that God is a loving God?

  • Read Genesis 3:1-7 - How is the goodness of God marred here?

  • Jesus says of the Old Testament, including Genesis “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.” In what ways do the verses listed above point us to Jesus and the Gospel?

HANDS: Questions aimed at our hands to help us live for God (Personally, Communally, and Missionally).

  • In what ways are you tempted to turn away from God’s goodness toward the false promises of sin?

  • In what ways do the scriptures you’ve reflected on above lead to worship God?

  • How can you make the most of our Sermon Series through Genesis? What are some practical ways you can dive deeper into study?
