PROVERBS 2:1-22
PDF VERSION

In Proverbs 2:1-22 we see that the result of finding wisdom is a righteous life of obedience before God and others. Wisdom and the right knowledge of God affect every area of our lives; from the depth of our heart and soul (v.10) to the way we walk the path of life (v.9). And as we walk the path of wisdom God, the source of wisdom, guards and protects.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. HEAD: Questions aimed at our minds to help us understand God’s word.

    • What does the father urge his son to do in verses 1-3?

    • What promises are made to those who diligently seek wisdom in verses 4-5?

  2. HEART: Questions aimed at our affections to help us love God.

    • The father here compares the wisdom of God to silver and hidden treasures (v.4-5). What does this tell us about the value of the knowledge of God?

    • As you evaluate what you treasure in your own heart, can you say that you consider the knowledge of God to be like silver and hidden treasure? If not, what else replaces the knowledge of God as a treasure?

  3. HANDS: Questions aimed at our hands to help us live for God (Personally, Communally, and Missionally).

    • In verses 9-19 we are given several results of a life lived in wisdom before God (ie. righteousness, speech, etc). List them and consider how you have seen these characteristics of wisdom in your own life or in the lives of those around you.

    • The promise to those who walk in wisdom is that they will “inhabit the land” (v.21). Take some time to read John 15:1-17 where Jesus teaches us to abide in him. What is the connection between John 15 and Proverbs 2? What does it mean for you to abide in Jesus?
